Real inclusion speaks your language

QR-BSL Translation

BSL is a language in its own right. Deaf people deserve the opportunity access clear information in their own language.

At QR-BSL translation we want to empower Deaf people to access information in their first language, BSL, and to do so independently

A person draws a diagram on a transparent screen with the word "Compliance" at the center, surrounded by related terms: policies, standards, laws, transparency, governance, regulation, and rules.

Empowering and supporting independence

The information you access every day is often inaccessible to Deaf people. English is a second language for the vast majority of Deaf BSL users and written English can be especially difficult to access. Jargon filled, and poorly written, texts do not support understanding leading Deaf people to rely on others to explain their personal letters and correspondence.

Imagine you were waiting to receive results of a biopsy and you receive a letter. You open it but it doesn’t make sense. You ask your friends to help but they don’t understand it either. You worry about what it says, you think you might be dying as it says something about 6 months, you lose sleep and can’t eat. You carry the letter with you just in case you bump into your doctor friend who can explain it to you. Finally, 2 weeks later you bump into her and she explains that everything is clear but they will call you back for another scan in 6 months. You are so relieved and reassured but what a horrible, stressful, unnecessary 2 weeks you’ve had.

This is the lived reality of so many Deaf people simply because all correspondence is present in written English without BSL. Yes, it’s been difficult to find a translator, record a video, create a DVD and send it out with a letter but not now. Now, QR-BSL Translation makes the process seamless. You can send out the letter with a QR code linking a BSL video translation of the letter/ correspondence enabling the Deaf recipient to access the information immediately, independently and in their first and preferred language.

Maybe this is the first time you’ve thought about this situation or perhaps you’ve been searching for exactly this service. Either way, we’d love to hear from you and work with you to ensure you are giving Deaf people equal access.
